When it comes to helping customers; whether it be people wanting to become a driving instructor, a better driving instructor or indeed, a pupil wanting to learn to drive, it really helps to identify the starting point. We do have a wealth of extremely effective resources and techniques in the BIG TOM franchise to help and support people but first, let’s just start with what on the face of it, seems a simple question:
“On a scale of 1 to 10, how ready are you to: become a driving instructor/run a more successful driving school/learn to drive” [delete as necessary]
Your answer to that question should form the starting point of future discussions with us. We can help you, but we do need to understand where you believe you are first. All too often, and unfortunately this is observed a great deal with CPD in our industry, the learning environment is one way; from training provider to trainee. This is missing out an incredibly important and necessary aspect for successful outcomes – it is ignoring the RECEIVER of the training content!
Think about it for one moment. Can you imagine asking a new pupil that question at the start of your working relationship, and after some thought, they look at you and say “Zero”
The conversation you have next will be entirely different to a pupil who answers, “Eight”.
There is no right or wrong answer, the answer given is from the mind of your customer, but it will very much assist you in the next conversations you have.
It is just an unfortunate fact that much of the CPD we see in the industry these days is simultaneously with multiple recipients – there is little capacity for individualised training programmes, everyone is expected to first of all, need the exact same content, and secondly, absorb and learn at the same pace as everyone else.
